  • Wakeman Mummers
Based in Ripon, North Yorkshire. Perform traditional-style mummers plays
Formed 1986 to perform a traditional-style play celebrating the 1100th
anniversary of the granting of Ripon's civic charter; which is still
performed annually, in Ripon, during St. Wilfrids Week ( first week in
    August )
Subsequently researched two traditional plays which are performed over
the Christmas season in the villages of origin, Skelton-on-Ure and
    Topcliffe.
Also have a couple of written items in the same style trotted out at any
time of the year, especially in the Autumn, when a more recent Wakeman tradition
has been to do a Pub Tour in Wensleydale, with their irreverent take on
alcohol and marriage, entitled "The Drinker". This is a self-penned play
that has now even reached British Columbia, and is performed regularly by
the Vancouver Morris Men - with Jim Coulson's permission!
